More student involvement

If I am elected I will aim to involve more students with the Law Society by way of introducing committees. I believe the society will run more effectively this way but also this will allow students to become involved without carrying a cumbersome burden. Students can gain valuable insight as to how the society runs whilst safeguarding their degree at the same time.

Sponsored events and workshops

I intend to use my developing professional network to ensure the Law Society holds more events and workshops which are run by various different law firms, which will allow students to gain an invaluable insight into the legal profession but also to help them build their own professional network.

Better workshops

As a Mooting Officer this year I have organised mooting and negotiation workshops and events for students to get involved. I intend to use my contacts in and outside of the University to ensure these workshops are run again for another year, which will allow students to develop and enhance their skill set. I will also ensure the opportunity to take part in internal and external competitions so that students can maximise their learning  and development at the university.

In addition I believe students will make the most out of workshops if there is a focus on practical aspects. There will be a number of informative workshops throughout the year, however I also want to increase the number of workshops and events which are more interactive so as to allow students to use and reinforce what they have learnt.

Real-time suggestions

As an executive member I realised there is no forum whereby students can request with ease, what they want from the Law Society. I believe this to be essential if the society is to adequately meet the needs of its members. I intend to work closely with the communications manager to implement a system whereby students can suggest or recommend events and workshops that they want to have. Having a system which allows students to make suggestions throughout the year will serve well during vac-scheme or training contract deadlines.

Past Experience

I have been involved with the Law Society for two years and I have a great understanding of what is expected from me as the Vice President. I have been a student rep for the Law Society for both years and intend to maintain an effective communication between the executive board, and the students in which we seek to help.
